After being nominated by The Black List to apply for the inaugural Stowe Story Labs / The Black List Artist Development Fellowship, Albert’s sci-fi romance feature screenplay The Verge of Seas has been selected as a semifinalist.
The Stowe Story Labs / The Black List Artist Development Fellowship will be awarded to one top emerging screenwriter to attend the Stowe Story Labs Narrative Lab in Stowe, Vermont, which will be followed by a longform online writing program (film or TV), or a custom built one-on-one mentoring program, depending on what would be most helpful to the Fellow. The fellowship will cover the fee to attend the Stowe Narrative Lab, a travel/lodging stipend of up to $1,500, plus all additional fellowship benefits.
The Black List is a platform for film and TV writers to showcase their screenplays for industry members. Since 2005, each December, The Black List releases its annual list, a survey of the most liked unproduced screenplays of that year. The annual lists, aggregated using votes from film executives working in the film industry, have included such Oscar winning films as JUNO, THE KING’S SPEECH and ARGO.
The Verge of Seas, written by Albert M. Chan, is about a struggling alcoholic in a failing marriage who returns to his childhood home in Montana, where his husband and children inexplicably vanish. Realizing he’s in an alternate reality, he seeks help from his husband’s parallel – a straight man – and must choose between rewriting his troubled past or risking everything to reunite with his loved ones.
