The Desert Film Society hosted a screening today of The Opposite of a Fairy Tale at Camelot Theatres. The film screens alongside the Lithuanian/Finnish film 2 yötä aamuun (2 Nights Till Morning).
The film follows a social worker (Nikole Marone) who uncovers the prevalent issues of elder abuse after she befriends an elderly patient (Jo Yang) at a nursing home. The film also stars Albert M. Chan and Deb Kuhn as the patient’s son and daughter-in-law.
The film was made possible, in part, through a grant from the Asian Women’s Giving Circle. The New York Asian Women will host a panel discussion following the screening, featuring writer Jennifer Betit Yen and actor Nikole Marone.
The Desert Film Society promotes the appreciation of film in the Coachella Valley by providing Society members an opportunity to view the latest in quality art, international and cutting-edge independent cinema and educating members by providing a platform for discussion of the art of film and film craft.
